Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) general-secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi has sounded a note of warning to soccer fans to refrain from believing that next Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier will be a stroll in the park for the Super Eagles against South Africa.
Rather than concur with a view that the Eagles will ride over their hosts at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg on November 17, Sanusi told sports247.ng that the Nigerian team actually need prayers to survive the game, which is decisive for both sides.
Although Sanusi expressed optimism that Nigeria will qualify for next year’s AFCON from the game in South Africa, he insists they cannot afford to take Bafana Bafana for granted.
“I want to us to qualify and I believe we can,” said Sanusi, “but we must not be overconfident or get carried away.
“That’s why I want Nigerians to assist the Super Eagles in prayers; even though I believe we have a team that can beat South Africa.”
