The 2025 edition of the Edo State Female Cricket League began in impressive fashion on Saturday across two venues in Benin City, with Adolor Amazons and Emotan Queens recording opening-day victories in their respective matches.
At the Centre of Excellence for Women’s Cricket, Iyoba Girls College, the Adolor Amazons defeated Ekpoma Supernova Cricket Club by three wickets in a tightly contested game.

After winning the toss, the Amazons elected to field first, putting on a disciplined bowling performance that restricted Ekpoma Supernova to 34 runs all out in 9.2 overs. In response, Adolor Amazons showed patience and control, reaching their target of 35 runs after 12.2 overs, despite losing seven wickets.
The Amazons were without their captain, Abigail Igbobie, who missed the game due to injury. However, players such as Peculiar Agboya, Christabel Chukwuwonye, and Beauty Oguai could not deliver the strong performances expected of them.
Ekpoma Supernova’s coach, Emmanuel Eromosele, acknowledged the defeat but remained optimistic about his team’s future.
“We lost, and it’s a hard one for us, but I always see losses as lessons,” he said. “We’ll work on our batting, correct our lapses, and bounce back stronger in the next game.”
An elated Amazons coach, Marvellous Oyivwi, expressed satisfaction with his team’s strategy and execution.
“The victory is an important one for us,” he noted. “We stuck to our plan—field first, restrict them to under 40 runs, and chase the target carefully. The girls did well, and we’ll build on this momentum.”
At the High Performance Centre, Edo Boys High School, it was a clash of familiar faces as Emotan Queens Cricket Club defeated Idia Royals Cricket Club by 13 runs.
Idia Royals won the toss and chose to field, bowling out Emotan Queens for 37 runs in 11.3 overs. However, the Queens produced a dominant bowling display in the second innings, restricting the Royals to just 24 runs in 9.2 overs, sealing a well-deserved victory.
Action continues on Sunday at 10:00 AM, as Ekpoma Supernova CC face Idia Royals CC at Iyoba Girls College, while Adolor Amazons CC will look to maintain their winning form against Emotan Queens CC
