Ademola Lookman Nominated for 2024 Ballon d’Or After Stellar Season

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has been nominated for the 2024 Ballon d’Or following an exceptional 2023/24 season.

The 26-year-old becomes the only African player shortlisted for this prestigious award.

Lookman’s nomination is the result of an unforgettable year, where he shone for both Nigeria and Italian club Atalanta.

The former Everton striker was instrumental in Nigeria’s run to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), finishing as the Super Eagles’ top scorer with three goals, securing a silver medal for his team.

His success extended to club football, where he played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s historic UEFA Europa League triumph.

Lookman’s standout moment came in the final against Bayer Leverkusen, where his brilliant hat-trick led Atalanta to their first European title and their first major trophy in 63 years.

Throughout the 2023/24 season, Lookman registered 22 goals and 11 assists in all competitions—scoring 17 times for Atalanta and five for Nigeria.

His consistent performances at both club and international levels have garnered widespread recognition.

This Ballon d’Or nomination solidifies Lookman’s status as one of Africa’s brightest football stars.

He becomes the eighth Super Eagles player to receive this honor, following Victor Osimhen’s eighth-place finish last year.
