Komta United and Highlanders FC Ture have reached the semi finals of the 7th Edition of the Adamu Yola Gombe South Unity Cup.
Both quarter final matches were played on Friday at the Olusegun Onasanjo stadium in Kaltungo.
The first quarter final match saw Komta United beat Mai Rana Boys FC 8-7 on penalties after it ended 1-1 in regulations time.
It was an evenly contested affair between both sides as Mai Rana Boys dominated possession in the first half while Komta United also had a fair share of their possession in the second half.
Bala Costa opened the scores in the 34th minute after he fired in a sublime strike to gift Mai Rana Boys the lead which lasted for only two minutes as Danlami Baka scored on the 36th minute to restore parity for Komta United as they went into the halftime break level.
Nothing to separate the two sides after ninety minutes with penalties needed to decide who goes through to the semifinal.
The penalty shootout saw Komta United emerging victorious as they progressed to the semifinal having converted eight of their ten kicks to win 8-7.
In the second match Highlanders FC Ture piped Ayaba United 1-0 to book a semifinal tie with Komta United.
Highlanders FC Ture took the lead in the 31st minute thanks to Naboth Bala rebound after Dauda Haruna’s free kick had rattled the cross bar and fall towards the path of Naboth Bala who tapped into the open net.
Highlanders FC took the lead into the second half and defended well to produce the win which confirmed their place in the semifinal of the ongoing 2022 Adamu Yola Unity Cup.
Highlanders FC will now take on Komta United in the second semifinal of the tourney on Tuesday December 27th 2022.
The first Semifinal will see Dinge Flying Bees trade tackle with Kaltungo Boys FC.
