Matchday four of Round of 16 of the 7th Edition of the Adamu Yola Gombe South Unity Cup played on 20th of December, 2022 at the Olusegun Obasanjo Stadium saw Ayaba United FC and Highlanders FC Ture qualify for the quarter-finals of the tournament.
The first match between Bare City FC and Ayaba United FC ended 2-2 in favour of both teams.
Bare City FC shot into the lead in the 13th minute through Musa Kenneth after they dominated play right from Kickoff.
Ayaba United FC got their equalizer through Kefas Amos in the 23rd minute.
Nothing could separate both teams going into the break.
On resumption of the second half, Ayaba United FC was more adventurous and it paid off when Rabiu Yila put them ahead for the first time in the 55th minute.
Bare United did not lay back as they had a goal ruled out for offside. Their persistence paid off in the 68th minute when they equalized through their captain Richard Yusuf.
Nothing could separate both sides and the game had to be decided by penalties.
Ayaba United FC won the penalty shootout 2-1 to qualify for the quarter-finals.
The second match of the day between FC Greater Tomorrow and Highlanders FC Ture ended just like the first match 2-2.
Abdullahi Haruna put FC Greater Tomorrow ahead in the 4th minute. Dauda Haruna equalized for Highlanders FC Ture in the 19th minute. In the second half, Naboth Danladi capitalized on a goalkeeping error to put Highlanders FC Ture ahead. Manasseh Oscar connected with a free kick in the 86th minute to level the scores and send the game to penalties.
Highlanders won the penalty shoot-out 4-3 to qualify for the quarterfinal.
