Former executive committee member of world soccer governing body, FIFA, Dr Amos Adamu has stuck out his neck in favour of the Super Eagles beating South Africa in Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Although the Eagles are playing away to Bafana Bafana at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, Adamu told sports247.ng he is sure the Nigerian squad will get maximum points from the game.
Adamu recounted how South Africa won the first leg 2-0 in Uyo in June 2017, but believes it will be a different ball game on Saturday, and says the three-time African champs will carry the day.
Adamu, who is also a former sole administrator of then Nigeria Football Association (NFA), expressed confidence that the Eagles will do well, in spite of the absence of notable players from the Nigerian squad.
John Mikel Obi, Odion Jude Ighalo, Francis Odinaka Uzoho and Shehu Abdullahi are all out due to injuries, while Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi is suspended due to accumulated yellow cards, but Adamu says the Eagles will cope in their absences.
Adamu, who was fondly called ‘Mr.Fix’ during his prominent days in the administration of Nigerian sports, declared: “I believe the Super Eagles will win on Saturday.
“It’s true some of their key players will not play the match, but I believe there are other quality players in the team to supplement others.
“They have enough good players that should get the job done. South Africa is not a team to be jittery about.”
