Pioneer promoter and organiser of beach soccer in Nigeria, Samson Adamu was part of an elite class of experts in the sport that took eight national team coaches through a special clinic in Cairo, Egypt.
Sports247.ng gathered that Adamu, who brought Copa Lagos to Nigeria and is Confederation of African Football (CAF) director of beach soccer competitions, was part of think-tank that included officials from BSWW and the National Championships.
CAF’s media department explained that the meeting with all eight coaches of teams participating at the 2018 African Beach Soccer Cup of Nations was held to discuss future strategies and measures to foster the growth of the sport in the region.
The media statement read in part: “With the focus on the future of beach soccer in Africa, a round table meeting was held in Sharm El Sheikh, involving CAF, Beach Soccer Worldwide and representatives from the eight National sides.
“Samson Adamu, Director of Competitions, Josep Ponset, Beach Soccer Worldwide Director of Competitions and Ahmed Salem, CAF Beach Soccer Event Manager, sat down with the eight Team Managers of the Nations involved in the current edition of the CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations.
“(They met) to discuss what the future of beach soccer looks like in the continent, and what are the necessary steps to take in order to help it grow and achieve its potential.
“Africa is a continent with huge possibilities, with thousands and thousands of kilometers of beach, a vibrant passion for football, and talented and strong athletes.
“With a proper plan, teams in this region can get to the highest level on the global beach soccer stage.
“CAF and Beach Soccer Worldwide fully agree on that, and the connection between both entities is strong, as they share one common goal: making the most of the capacities and potential that African Beach Soccer has.
“In turn, the different team managers also presented their respective views and ideas, as well as expressing what were their own first priorities in terms of international competitions and domestic programs.
“These meetings will keep on happening in the coming months, as CAF and Beach Soccer Worldwide will continue to work together to further develop the game in Africa.”
