Winners FC and Ihuyase FC meet in the Agbor Coaches and Directors Unity Cup final, with Christian’s side aiming to be the first team to clinch the first edition of the Unity trophy while the Alihamen based Ihuyase will look to their rejuvenated side to inspire them to a record Cup victory.
A crowd of 1,000 will be inside the Agbor Township Stadium for the final on Sunday, which kicks off at 4pm in Agbor (15:00 GMT), including 200 supporters of each side for the game.
The final promises to be a fitting climax to the Tournament which has been filled with surprises, thrills and excitement over the last 3 weeks, with Winners FC looking to win a second Champions in one year since loosing to Big Daddy in the Bolero Cup in 2021. Ihuyase FC were Quarterfinalist earlier in the year at the Bet9ja-DFA State League and also lost out in the Abbi Unity Cup late in August and the Coach Timothy Ujah side will be looking to end their quest for silverware.
Victory would round off a campaign in which both sides have gone unbeaten, Winners FC defeated Soccer Stars 2-1 in the opning group round before playing out a 1-1 draw with Ihuyase FC. For Ihuyase, they were closed to being knocked out when they went 2-0 down at half time against Soccer Stars but their resilience saw them come back to win 3-2 to set up a Quarter final match up with Rainbow FC. Winners defeated rivals Green Rangers 1-0 in the quarter finals while Ihuyase saw off Rainbows with the same score line.
Winners FC edged out Golden Boys 2-1 while Ihuyase pipped Ultimate by a lone goal to qualify for the Finals.
“I’m more than happy and proud of what we did so far, it’s really special,” said Comrade Chris, Director of Winners FC.
“I will feel better if we win the game and that’s all that I am concerned about,” he added, after being boosted by the news that striking duo Ernest Okonkwo and Destiny Isioma are fit to play.
Coach Timothy Ujah is keeping his game plan to his chest and has refused to comment since the tournament commenced taking each game as it comes.
“I am happy my boys played Ihuyase, I think they are one of the strongest and experienced team I have played” george Uzioma, Director of Ultimate FA said moments after his side bowed out to of the tournament at the semi finals stage
Meanwhile, Golden Boys went on to defeat Ultimate FC to bag the bronze medal in the 3rd place playoff on saturday with a return match of the coaches and directors novelty game set for Sunday 1:00pm as a prelude to the Finals. In the First match played a to open the tournament, Man United Fans defeated Chelsea Fans 2-0.
“Its good to see that football in Agbor is evolving, the tournament has been keenly contested and their are no push over teams, games were very tight and decided by slim wins, this shows the standard is improving and i really commend the organizers” KG Sports Academy Director, Dr. Ken Gadaffi said from his base in Cambodia. ” With such tournament, i am sure in no time, we will be able to discover real talents from Agbor or Ika at large. Kudos to all the teams and the organizers ” He said.
Dr. Gadaffi pledged Two Balls for the two Finalists, meanwhile the organizers has announced that the champions will cart away the golden trophy, gold medals and a cash award of #70,000 with the runners up going home with silver medals and a cash award of #50,000. The 3rd Place winner gets Bronze medals and #30,000.
