The 14th All-Stars National Football Veterans Tournament will commence on Thursday, November 21, at the practice pitch of the Moshood Abiola Stadium (MKO), featuring exciting fixtures on day one.
The tournament’s draws, conducted on Wednesday at the FIFA Goal Project in Abuja, set the stage for thrilling encounters. The opening match will see Abuja face Gombe, followed by a highly anticipated clash between Lagos and Kano, dubbed the “star match of the day.” Both matches rekindled the passion and artistry of the veterans, showcasing skillful play reminiscent of their prime.
In Group A’s subsequent fixtures, Gombe will slug it with Plateau, while Lagos go up against Abuja, wrapping up an action-packed first day.
Friday’s schedule includes defending champions Abia taking on Edo in the opening match, followed by Abia squaring off against Plateau.
A total of eight teams, representing the six geopolitical zones, are participating in this year’s tournament: Abuja, Plateau, Kano, Gombe, Abia, Edo, Ibadan, and Lagos.
Speaking at the draws ceremony, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Robinson Okosun, assured participants and fans of a smooth and hitch-free tournament. He emphasized that high-level security measures are in place, along with a standby ambulance and top-tier medical personnel to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone throughout the event.
With veterans rolling back the years and reigniting old rivalries, the tournament promises to deliver unforgettable moments on and off the pitch.
