The official launch of a logo for the maiden Above-50s Mini-Olympics will take place next Sunday, July 28th at Ostra Hotel, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
This was disclosed by renowned football supporter and boxing promoter, Alhaji (Dr) Rafiu Ladipo, who happens to be a leading personality propelling the event.
Ladipo, who was the pioneer president-general of Nigerian Football Supporters Club and held the illustrious position for almost 20 years, said the upcoming event will be full of pomp and pageantry.
He added that the logo unveiling ceremony of the Above-50s Mini-Olympics will also usher in the beefed up version of the competition, which debuted last year as the Above-50 Football Championship, but will now have five other sporting events added to it.
Ladipo retorted further, “We are going to unveil the logo of the Above-50 Mini-Olympics on the 28th of July at Ostra Hotel, Ikeja.
“Incidentally, the originator of this event, Ambassador Edward Olutoke, recently took over the management of that hotel, and it’s a very big place.”
The amiable sports zealot and former newspaper publisher further spoke about steps already taken to ensure that the forthcoming competition is staged successfully in October.
“Two committees have been put in place … the technical committee and media committee.
“We hold our meetings regularly every week. The last one was at the swimming pool of the National Stadium, and we will have another one on Tuesday.
“In view of this, we want everybody … everybody that is above 50 … to believe that he or she can still participate in sports and make money.
“So, we invite the general public and all of the media to join us on the 28th at Ostra Hotel.
“It’s going to be a big event, where the logo will be unveiled and the hotel opened. The competition itself will start in the second week of October,” Ladipo externuated.
