All is now set for the final of the maiden edition of the Above 50 football competition knowing fully well that Abeokuta FC defeated Surulere FC on penalties to get to the finals while Ajegunle FC defeated Alimosho FC by penalties to make it to the finals.
Organisers of the maiden ‘Above 50’ football tournament have set aside the sum of N8 million for winners of the event, which holds in July in Lagos.
Initiator of the tournament, who is President of Ikeja Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, Jackpot Edward Olutoke, stated that the overall champions of the competition would pocket N5 million, while the first and second runners-up will get N3 million and N1 million respectively.
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the championship, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo revealed his delight of how the competition took the attention of everyone as they hope for a better turnout in the finals.
“We are happy that the final is coming up as we are ready for it. We ought to have had the final last week Sunday but for the game going into penalties with time not on our side after what we planned to have a very beautiful final ceremony, we had to re-adjust it.”
“Getting all the players together, we had to let them go rest well for a very competitive final tomorrow. So we are calling on everyone to come and enjoy football at its best because life which begins at 50 is what we are showcasing,” he concluded.
