Former National team player, Abiodun Obafemi, has emphasized the importance of professionalism over personal relationships between players and coaches.
He argued that mutual liking between players and coaches is not necessary for them to effectively carry out their duties.

Obafemi suggested that the relationship between a coach and a player should primarily be professional in nature.
“I don’t think it matters whether the players like the coach or not, or whether the coach likes a player,” he stated. “The relationship that should exist between a coach and a player is professional.”
According to Obafemi, maintaining a professional demeanor is essential for coaches to fulfill their roles successfully.
“Honestly, outside that relationship, over time, all those interests may be coming that will make you feel closer to each other,” he explained.
“But honestly, you don’t need to like a coach before the coach performs his functions well.”
Obafemi’s perspective underscores the significance of professionalism and competence in fostering effective coach-player dynamics, highlighting the need for mutual respect and commitment to achieve collective goals within a team.
