Abia Warriors Arrive Ilorin For Tough NPFL Clash Against Kwara United

Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia has arrived in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, ahead of their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) midweek fixture against Kwara United.

Fresh from their victory over reigning champions Enugu Rangers at the Umuahia Township Stadium, the Warriors aim to maintain their momentum by securing a positive result in Ilorin.

However, Kwara United, known for their strong home performances, will present a formidable challenge. Abia Warriors’ goalkeeper, Nmecha Johnson, acknowledges the difficulty of the encounter but assures that his team is well-prepared.

“It won’t be an easy game because we know what we’re here for. Kwara United is a strong team, and looking at their position on the table, we expect a tough match. But we are fully ready for it,” Nmecha stated.

The fixture will see Abia Warriors face familiar opponents, as Kwara United is coached by Tunde Sani, a former assistant coach of the Umuahia-based side. Additionally, former Abia Warriors players Ozor Philip and Jimoh Gbadamosi are now part of Kwara United’s squad. Nmecha is looking forward to the reunion.

“It’s football—players come and go, and we meet different people along the way. I know the quality they bring, and we are prepared for the challenge,” he added.

As it stands, Abia Warriors sit in 4th place on the NPFL table, while Kwara United is in 10th position.

The match is scheduled for Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 4 PM local time at the Kwara State Sports Complex, Ilorin.
