The City of Umuahia was yesterday October 3, 2023, greeted with a road parade by Abia Warriors Football Club.

The show witnessed a large turnout of the management staff, playing staff, technical crew, backroom staff, supporters of the club and enthusiastic members of the public in a colourful procession, who danced to the musical tunes of the DJ around the state capital.
The Supporters Club of Abia Warriors were not left out as they dished out melodious tunes of their own.
The event was aimed at re-introducing the club to the people as the NPFL 2023/2024 season got underway, growing the fan base of the club, building strong followers soliciting public support and enjoining the public to attend the club’s home games.
The walk commenced from the Umuahia Township Stadium and moved through Ikot Ekpene Road, Aba Road, Umuwaya Road, Uwalaka Road and Uzuakoli Road.
There was a brief stop at Okpara Square for some members of the parade to showcase their dance skills before they moved to Bank Road and made a final stop at Government House Umuahia.
The participants were received by the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development Sir Nwaobilo Ananaba, who was delighted for the large turnout of participants and the Governor’s choice of Coach John Obuh as the Chairman of the club.
“I am delighted tonight because of this mass turnout to showcase Abia Warriors; to tell the State that the Chairman is not joking, (and) that His Excellency had made a good choice in picking the Chairman (Coach John Obuh) here.”
The Honourable Commissioner also expressed confidence in the capability of Coach John Obuh to lead Abia Warriors to the promised land and shared optimism that the club will play in a CAF competition in the near future.
“With his wealth of experience, knowledge, and international connection; he is going to take Abia Warriors to the next level.
“I’ve also seen the team he has put together: the coaching staff, the management staff; I’m very, very proud, and I’m looking forward to Abia Warriors competing next year or in the future in CAF competitions.”
The Commissioner was accompanied by the Member representing Umuahia Central Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Honourable Anthony Chinasa who pledged his support.
“…I am very fortunate that their (Abia Warriors) home is in Umuahia, and for the fact that the home is in Umuahia Central, I will do everything humanly possible to support them…”
In his remarks, the Chairman, Coach John Obuh expressed his gratitude to the Governor of the State, Dr Alex Otti OFR, for his support and also thanked the two government officials for the warm reception.
