Abia State Welcomes Niger Delta Sports Festival Torch Amid Grand Ceremony

Abia State played host to the Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF) torch tour in a brief but symbolic ceremony held at the Umuahia Township Stadium and the Government House.

The state Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Hon. Nwaobilor Ananaba Nwadinma, received the torch at the Umuahia Township Stadium before leading Team Abia to the Government House, where it was formally presented to the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti.

Upon arrival at the Governor’s residence, Team Abia was treated to a dinner with the governor, fostering camaraderie and morale ahead of the festival. The team later proceeded to the governor’s yard, where the ceremonial torch lighting took place.

In a moment of pride and unity, the commissioner handed over the torch to Governor Otti amid cheers from those present.

In his address, Governor Otti charged Team Abia to go and conquer in Uyo, promising them a grand state reception upon their victorious return. He also commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for initiating the sports festival, emphasizing its role in fostering unity and discovering untapped athletic talents across the Niger Delta region.

With the torch ceremony concluded, Team Abia is now focused on final preparations for the festival, set to take place in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, from April 1-8, 2025.
