The Director of Sports for Abia State, Comrade Obioma George, has expressed confidence that the state’s contingents at the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, will surpass their performance from 2023.
In an exclusive interview, Comrade Obioma George emphasized the athletes’ focus on achieving success. “We are very determined to record success during the games in Asaba.

We have prepared very well and have also tried to correct our mistakes from the last edition of the tournament.
We have been supported effectively by the state government through the Ministry of Sports & Youth Development, and all the athletes and their coaches are here in Asaba, ready to compete effectively,” he stated.
Comrade Obioma George also expressed his gratitude to the Commissioner for Sports, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba, and Governor Alex Chioma Otti (OFR) for their support towards sports development in the state.
He highlighted the recent global recognition Abia State received through a victorious outing in Paris, France, where two athletes from Abia, Onyinyechi Mark and Esther Nworgu, won gold and silver medals in powerlifting at the Paralympic Games. Onyinyechi Mark set a new world record of 150kg in powerlifting.
A total of 259 athletes and officials from Abia State have arrived in Asaba, Delta State, and will participate in 28 out of the 36 approved sports for this year’s 8th edition of the Under-15 National Youth Games, which has already kicked off and will last until September 19, 2024.
