Nsulu Games Village, one of the country’s significant sports infrastructure, is set to undergo a revival in Abia State, aimed at bolstering the development of sports in the region.
The facility, established by the former chairman of the defunct National Sports Commission (NSC), Sir Jerry Enyeazu, has suffered neglect from successive governments, resulting in its deterioration and takeover by rodents and miscreants.
Governor Dr. Alex Otti has taken proactive steps to change this situation and has pledged to rebuild the Nsulu Games Village as part of his broader plan to enhance sports and youth development in the state. The Governor made this commitment during a meeting with Abia Warriors FC’s new chairman, Coach Sam Obuh, at his country home in Nvosi, Isialangwa.
Governor Otti emphasized that his administration prioritizes sports and youth development, and the appointment of Coach Obuh was based on merit and his outstanding track record of achievements. He expressed confidence that Coach Obuh would take Abia Warriors to new heights, highlighting the excitement surrounding his appointment and Kanu Nwankwo’s involvement with Enyimba International Football Club.
Furthermore, Governor Otti reiterated his campaign promise to redevelop the Nsulu Games Village, emphasizing his instruction to the Commissioner for Sports to work towards its restoration. The Governor expressed his vision for the facility to cater not only to football but also to other sports.
Coach Obuh, in response, thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve and promised to uphold the trust placed in him. Drawing from his extensive experience in youth football development at the national level for over 20 years, Coach Obuh expressed his enthusiasm to contribute to the growth of football in his state and vowed to work diligently to ensure the success of Abia Warriors FC.
The revival of Nsulu Games Village signifies a significant step towards elevating the sports sector in Abia State and provides a renewed sense of hope and enthusiasm for sports enthusiasts and athletes in the region.
