Years after the stunning emergence of outgoing Super Eagles’ captain, Ahmed Musa as a star to be celebrated in Kano, a new rave of the moment has appeared in ‘The City of Groundnut Pyramids.’
The latest dazzler who is currently shaking all of Northern Nigeria, and looks good to soon unleash his verbom all over the federation, is Abdullahi Adamu (aka Gula).
Abdullahi Adamu has set tongues wagging and is sending shivers of apprehension through the veins of opposing clubs, as he has enacted a rare feat of eight goals in same number of matches at Dutse zone of Nigeria’s third-tier Nationwide League One (NLO).
Eight-over-eight is the scorecard gained ny Adamu, who is also hailed with the tag of ‘Masha Allah,’ as he continues raining fire and brimstone on opponents of his club, ATK FC of Kano.
It is equally dramatic that Adamu’s goals have fetched his club victories in all five matches they have played so far in the first half of the league, fetching them maximum 15 points in the process, and they are understandably top of the log.
His haul of goals includes braces against Zango FC and Sky Academy as well as one appiece versus Highlands, Dutse Strikers, Hausawa Halfa United and Barau Academy, thereby making him the undisputed top scorer in the NLO’s Dutse zone.
As the second half of the season now approaches, ATK are sure to be in the promotion play-offs, which could ultimately fetch them a spot in the second-tier Nigerian National League (NNL) next season and another step closer for Adamu to fulfill his current rating as the heir apparent to Ahmed Musa.
His status in that regard has been buttressed with captivating displays by this 17-year-old thrillmaker, who, like Musa, is blessed with amazing speed, an uncanny eye for goal and insatiable hunger for success.
As it was, when Musa burst unto the scene with Kano Pillars in 2010, en route to emerging top scorer in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), his ‘successor’ has popped up 24 years after and looks set to shake the whole of Nigeria, Africa and the world in accelerated time.
Such is the glitter in his game that Kano football fans, as zealous and frenetic as they are, have coined many lofty aliases and catchy references to celebrate their latest football gem.
One of them eulogided, “This boys is something else. Not only has he scored eight goals in eight matches, he also has three assists to his name.
“That is something that people in Europe love. Because they say nowadays that assists are as important as goals.
“To imagine that this lad is just 17, and he is playing his first season in the league. That means he is just starting and will be even deadlier when he reaches his peak next year.”
