This development was offered by a member of the squad after the Special Eagles’ 6-2 loss to Morocco in the semi-final on Saturday.
Garma said it was a painful defeat, but admitted that the Amputee World Cup ticket, which had earlier been sealed with a place in the last four, and finishing third overall would be massive boosts for the team.
Garma added: “We are disappointed that we couldn’t make it to the final, but grateful for the opportunity to represent Nigeria and be part of this incredible journey.
“We are sorry to the team and staff for not doing enough to secure a spot in the final – I know we all had our hearts set on bringing home the trophy.”
Garma also spoke about his personal achievements in the competition and gave thanks to God for helping him get on the scorers’ cards for Saturday’s match.
He concluded: “Thank you, Allah, for allowing me to score a goal and be on the scorers’ list tonight. It’s an honour to have contributed to the team’s efforts.
“Although my goal couldn’t take us further, I’m proud of the team’s hard work, dedication and fighting spirit.
“We may not have won, but we’ve gained so much experience and memories to cherish. On to the next challenge.”
The team will now focus on progressing through various activities heading into the Amputee Football World Cup, which will take place in Mirocco in 2026, with Nigeria already confirmed among seven countries to carry Africa’s banner.
