In addition to addressing issues that have impeded high performances and the growth of Nigerian football, the Honorable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has demanded that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) immediately put in place the necessary framework to ensure Nigeria qualifies for the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
This follows the dismal output and subsequent very poor returns of the Senior Men National Team, Super Eagles, in four out of 10 matches in the ongoing qualification series for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.

The present national team coach, the proficiency of the NFF Technical Committee and Technical Department, and player discipline in the national team camp were among the topics discussed during the meeting that took place on Thursday in the Minister’s office in Abuja.
The Minister and the NFF also discussed how to bring in fresh talent from Nigeria whenever possible so that the top players are always representing their nation.
The NFF technical team and authorities were given not more than one week to deliver a detailed perspective that outlined the proactive measures done to prepare the team for the next competitive matches.
Senator Enoh expressed Nigerians’ and the government’s disappointment over the country’s poor performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, saying that the nation is in a dire situation as it is ranked second from bottom with just three points from four games out of a possible twelve. He said that this is completely unacceptable.
