“We Went To Bed Dreaming of NPFL”: Toheeb says As His Brace Secures Ikorodu City FC’s Promotion Into The NPFL

Ikorodu City FC has clinched promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), thanks to a stellar performance by Toheeb, who scored a decisive brace in their final match.

Toheeb, who had previously scored the equalizer for Beyond Limits, rose to the occasion once again, ensuring Ikorodu City FC’s promotion to Nigeria’s top-flight league.

Reflecting on the victory, Toheeb shared his elation, stating, “What a feeling. I can’t really express my feelings. Today is the happiest day of my life. We have been on this journey, and what a victory for us today.”

He revealed the motivational words from their director that inspired their triumph. “Our director told us one thing yesterday when we were going to bed: ‘Go to bed and dream of NPFL.’ That word touched my heart, and I was like, if every one of us can come with the spirit of this last word, nobody can stop us.”

The win not only signifies the end of a challenging journey but also underscores the spirit and determination of the team. “Our coach told us it was winning or nothing,” Toheeb continued. “We turned a 2-0 into a victory for us. It is a great feeling in camp. Everybody is happy. The brace today comes with dedication, spirit, and teamwork. We are happy. Lagos State having another team in the NPFL is a great feeling for us all.”

Ikorodu City FC’s path to the NPFL has been a rollercoaster. In 2022, they narrowly avoided relegation from the Nigeria National League (NNL) on the final day. The following year, they faced the tension of a relegation playoff. However, 2024 has marked a significant turnaround, with the team not only surviving but thriving, earning their well-deserved spot in the NPFL.

This achievement is a testament to the resilience and hard work of Ikorodu City FC. Their promotion is not just a victory for the team but also a proud moment for Lagos State, now represented by another team in Nigeria’s premier football league.
