Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has expressed her team’s determination to match their remarkable performance at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup as they prepare for the 2024 Olympics.
Nnadozie, a key figure in Nigeria’s squad, emphasized the team’s readiness to tackle the tough challenges ahead in the Olympic Games.

Reflecting on their World Cup journey, the Super Falcons defied expectations by advancing from a challenging group that included powerhouses like Canada, Ireland, and Australia.
Under coach Randy Waldrum, Nigeria secured second place in their group and faced off against a confident England side in the Round of 16. Despite dominating much of the game and creating several scoring opportunities, Nigeria was ultimately eliminated in a penalty shootout after England’s Lauren James received a red card.
As they head into the Olympics, Nigeria finds themselves in another formidable group. Drawn into Group B, the Super Falcons will compete against top-ranked Spain, as well as strong contenders Brazil and Japan. Despite being the lowest-ranked team in the group, Nnadozie remains optimistic about Nigeria’s prospects.
At a recent LIS event, Nnadozie shared her thoughts: “We faced a similar situation at the World Cup. Nobody believed in us, but we showed our resilience. Our team is mentally and physically prepared, featuring a mix of experienced and young talent playing in top leagues across Europe and other countries.”
Highlighting the team’s indomitable spirit, Nnadozie added, “Football is unpredictable, but our focus is clear. We are ready to make the nation proud and continue from where we left off at the World Cup. Our goal is to qualify from the group stage and make a significant impact at the Olympics.”
Given their underdog status against world-class teams, the Super Falcons will need to deliver exceptional performances to advance from their group. However, Nnadozie’s confidence and the team’s track record suggest that Nigeria could once again defy expectations on the global stage.
