At Elder Akpala’s 70th birthday celebration, Ogunbawo Emmanuel Adekunle, the current Public Relations Officer (PRO) of All Stars International FC Lagos, shared his thoughts on the inspiring elder and his journey with the club.
At 45, Ogunbawo represents a younger generation within the club, yet he looks up to Elder Akpala with deep respect and admiration.
Ogunbawo shared his motivation for joining All Stars, highlighting the club’s unique blend of maturity and camaraderie.
“One of the things that made me join All Stars is because of the cohesion among them. They are well-matured,” he explained.
This maturity is personified in Elder Akpala, whose energy and dedication continue to inspire members of all ages.
Ogunbawo was particularly impressed by Elder Akpala’s physical prowess. Despite being 70, Akpala remains an active and formidable football player.
“This man is so energetic in a way that he can give you a good 45 minutes of intensive play,” Ogunbawo noted.
His ability to keep up with, and often surpass, younger players is a testament to his fitness and passion for the sport.
Beyond his athletic abilities, Elder Akpala is known for his humble and jovial nature. Ogunbawo described him as a “phenomenal human being” who, despite his age, interacts with everyone as if they were equals.
“He is down to earth and a jovial man,” Ogunbawo said, emphasizing how Elder Akpala’s demeanour makes him a beloved figure within the club.
Reflecting on his journey, Ogunbawo shared his background as a former local league player for Kwara United during his university days.
Although an injury ended his professional football aspirations, he found a fulfilling career as the regional sales head for Tata International Nigeria.
His involvement with All Stars International FC allows him to stay connected to his passion for football while learning from veterans like Elder Akpala.
