Nigerian football legend and former national team captain, Chief Segun Odegbami has poured a flood of prayers on the country’s physically challenged squad, Special Eagles, ahead of the African Amputee Football Cup of Nations (AAFCON).

The Special Eagles are set to storm Cairo, Egypt for the continental showpiece of amputee footballers, and Odegbemi said he was excited being part of a marketing drive organised to send the team forth.
The 1980 Africa Cup of Nations winner on home soil, with the then Green Eagles, added that the jersey that was launched on the same day for the squad is worth celebrating as a true symbol of the great things Nigerians are capable of achieving.
The footballer turned businessman, who is the proud owner of a sports school and radio station, both in Ogun State, stated emphatically that the Special Eagles have all that is needed to win AAFCON 2024 in Egypt.
Odegbami declared at length: “It’s a big surprise, but I feel very highly honored that I was invited to be part of this very special event. The people involved are also very, very special.
“We know of the Super Eagles, the Green Eagles, Flying Eagles, Super Falcons, Falconets, and so on, but those are all just normal. These are people who are challenged, and once they succeed, it’s like going beyond the ordinary.
“So, I feel very, very honored to be among the challenged of the Eagles, and I pray that the heavens will open up opportunities and treasures for them. They are going to succeed, and they will win.
“They will get the trophy and, even if they don’t get it, they will probably still be among the greatest heroes you can find in Nigeria. People who have surmounted things that ordinary people will take for granted.
“So, I wish them the very best of luck and look forward to receiving them when they come back with that Africa Cup of Nations for the Special Eagles.”
The one fondly called ‘Mathematical 7’ then showered accolades on the quality of jerseys provided for the Special Eagles by Nigeran Amputee Football Federation (NAFF) president, Paul Maduakor, and described the kit as a very good symbol for the excellence of made in Nigeria products.
Odegbami added: “When I saw the quality of their jerseys, with the real colors of Nigeria, this made me start recommending that we need to consider our own productions in this country. These are beautiful jerseys. The jerseys are beautiful, and the track suits are well cut, made to reflect the true colors of Nigeria. So, I’m exceedingly happy.
“Not just because I’m seeing these beautiful kits, but that they are home made. Home made, Nigeria made. That’s what the federal government is saying … we should be producing things at home.
“This is what Paul and Zenith Sports are doing. So, we must encourage him, we must support him. Not just that, they are going to bring the cup to Nigeria with this jersey.
“So, whether we like it or not, all of us should be wearing the green, green, green of Prostar. That’s what we all should be patronizing. Prostar! That is the brand…”
