Ahead of their eighth game in this season’s NLO zonal contest, Admiralty are fourth with 12 points, Roro FC third on 13, Oomi second with 14 and Ojodu lead the way with a mammoth 21 points.
However, Egbuka, who got the lone goal in his side’s 1-1 draw with Oomi on Sunday, insists that everyone in his club is eager to keep fighting for victories in their remaining matches, while he is personally targeting the top scorer’s prize.
Heading into their next game versus Okaka FC on Tuesday and then against fifth placed BYT on Thursday, Egbuka shot another look at Sunday’s draw and concluded that it was a wonderful game.
“Today was a beautiful outcome,” the youngster retorted, “both sides actually are good teams.
“The intensity of the game right from the beginning to the end was actually competitive. We were able to come out with a draw, and I believe it has made us stronger.
“By the special grace of God, we’ll come out victorious in our next game.”
He went on to reveal his ambitions as a budding footballer, and, with his mind set of playing professionally abroad, Egbuka stressed that he must always keep fighting to achieve big things.
“Personally, as a footballer and for my career, I won’t stop giving my best in every match. The same spirit is in my teammates at Admiralty FC Nigerian Navy.
“In spite of the fact that Ojodu are well ahead of us on top of the table, and it is very true that they have won the league already, that does not stop me from keeping on fighting and us to keep putting in everything, even when we play against them.
“I set a target for myself that I am going to come out of this league as the highest goals scorer. I have five goals now in seven matches, and we are still looking forward to continue putting pressure on the leading clubs,” Egbuka expatiated.
He concluded with a projection about his career at the club, and confessed that he is not thinking of staying for too long with Admiralty.
Egbuka declared: “Every grassroots footballer aspires to go higher, in Europe especially. I won’t say I’ll end in Admiralty.
“They don’t stop me from moving, going for trials, or aspiring for the Nigerian premier league. I’m still fighting, and I don’t plan on ending up in Admiralty.”
