NWFL Super-6: Confluence Queens Set Their Preparations In Motion

Confluence Queens FC of Lokoja have set in motion their preparations for this year’s Super-6 competition to cap the Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) season.

The team from Kogi State sealed their ticket on Wednesday alongside Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia, after both sides played out a goalless draw in Lokoja, to finish first and second respectively on the NWFL table.

They were followed by Heartland Queens of Owerri, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt, Edo Queens of Benin City, and Bayelsa Queens of Yebagoa in that order, to set the stage for a potentially explosive Super-6 contest.

With expectations of a tough competition ahead of his side and a strong desire to emerge champions at the end of the contest, Confluence Queens chairman, Honourable Abdulmalik Isah Doli admitted that they have to start preparations in earnest.

He reckoned that Confluence Queens already have an arsenal of talents that is good enough to win the title, but stressed that they need unflinching support from the state government, football fans and everyone in Kogi State for them to claim the NWFL gong later next month.

Honourable Doli went on to reveal steps that have been taken to set preparations in motion and complement an elaborate welfare package that he put in place on his assumption of duty as the cub’s helmsman.

The club boss added, “I have the players who can do it, and we have total support from the government. I have already submitted my memo to them for the Super-6.

“We are not waiting for the state’s budget. This is a different memo to the government, and I believe my governor will obey it; because we are already preparing for the Super-6.

“Welfare is not something that I will boast about, but I can say we are trying our best. Ask any of the players or management staff. We have not owed them a single kobo in their salary.

“When I became chairman, I increased their bonuses from N5,000 to N10,000 for away win. For a home win, we pay N5,000 and also draw N5,000. I believe we are one of the best in players’ welfare. If not the best, we are one of the best.

“I don’t have any problems here. They don’t have any problem with their welfare. Before their last match, I paid them all their bonuses. I can safely say we are ready for the Super-6.”
