Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, the Chairman of the Ogun State Football Association and an executive board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has extended his heartfelt condolences to former Nigeria captain, Dr. Olusegun Odegbami, over the tragic loss of his son, Oluwagbeminiyi Omo Odegbami.
The young Odegbami passed away on Good Friday, 30th March 2024, a fact that was made public by the grieving father himself on Wednesday morning.
In a statement, Alhaji Majekodunmi expressed his deep sympathy: “The loss of a child is an unimaginable tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Olusegun Odegbami during this incredibly difficult time.”
He went on to recall Dr. Odegbami’s unwavering commitment to Nigerian football, saying, “His passion for the game and for our national team, the Super Eagles, is unparalleled. His belief in the team’s potential to win the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year was inspiring to us all.”
Alhaji Majekodunmi revealed that the entire Nigerian football community, including the NFF and the Ogun State Football Association, have been praying for the repose of the soul of Oluwagbeminiyi Omo Odegbami since the news broke.
“We mourn alongside Dr. Odegbami,” he said. “He is not just a legend of Nigerian football and a former captain, but also a dear friend. His love for the game is infectious. We pray for strength for him during these trying times and for eternal rest for his departed son.”
