Respected sports administrator, Alhaji Abba Yola, has voiced his support for the appointment of a local coach for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
While acknowledging the contributions of foreign coaches to Nigerian football, Alhaji Yola emphasized the potential of Nigerian coaches to excel if provided with the necessary resources and conducive environment.
“In as much as we appreciate the services of foreign technical advisors, we have a pool of coaches within that could be able to also deliver if given the chance, if given the wherewithal, if given the environment,” stated Alhaji Yola.
He went on to highlight the successes of past Nigerian coaches and their ability to match the achievements of foreign counterparts. “We have had one or two of them, they are all late may their souls rest in perfect peace. So let’s go back again and try,” he remarked.
Alhaji Abba Yola emphasized that the issue is not merely about experimentation but about recognizing the talent and potential within the local coaching fraternity. “We are certain we have some people that can be able to match what the foreign technical advisors have been able to do over the past 15 or so years,” he affirmed.
Concluding, Alhaji Abba Yola called for the recognition and elevation of Nigerian coaches, urging decision-makers to consider appointing one of their own to lead the Super Eagles. “I think we should give ourselves that kind of privilege and honor to pick one of us to do the job,” he concluded.
Alhaji Abba Yola’s endorsement of local coaching talent underscores the growing sentiment within Nigerian football circles for greater recognition and empowerment of homegrown coaching expertise.
