In a bid to foster the growth of sports and provide a platform for potential champions, Lekan Fatodu, the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), has reiterated the commission’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for athletes to showcase their talents at international standards.
Fatodu made this statement during the opening ceremony of the Zen Lagos Open Archery Championship held at the Main Bowl of Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere.

Highlighting the state’s support for innovative ideas and development in sports, Fatodu emphasized the importance of focusing on individual talents and stimulating actions that contribute to unparalleled development in the sporting ecosystem.
“We have an impressive population of archers in the state who have been eagerly awaiting an opportunity and collaboration of this nature between their community and the Lagos State government,” Fatodu remarked.
He further explained that the commission is diversifying its support beyond traditional sports like football and swimming, aiming to cultivate a diverse community of sporting champions and talents in the state.
Fatodu stressed the commission’s commitment to exploring different disciplines to identify and nurture individuals with great potential in the sports environment.
Encouraging more youth to take an interest in archery, Fatodu urged continuous inspiration and leadership from stakeholders to propel Lagos and Nigeria to prominence in the global archery community.
The Zen Archery Lagos Open Championship has attracted over 100 archers from various clubs across the country competing in compound, recurve, and barebow categories, making it a landmark event in the sport’s history.
