Abia Comets FC displayed a formidable team effort as they clinched a crucial 2-1 away victory over Vandrezzer FC in a thrilling Matchday 12 encounter of the 2023/2024 Nigeria National League (NNL) Southern Conference A, held at the Uyo Township Stadium.
The match marked the commencement of the second stanza of the season after a brief hiatus, and Abia Comets wasted no time asserting their dominance.
Despite a promising start from the hosts, it was Maduka Emeka who broke the deadlock in the 19th minute with a stunning volley, courtesy of an assist from John Otomewo.
Maintaining a solid defensive display throughout the first half, Abia Comets went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, the team continued to showcase resilience, with their defensive unit led by stand-in Captain Benjamin Iluyomade thwarting numerous attempts from Vandrezzer FC.
The visitors extended their lead in the 74th minute, as Jonah James found the back of the net with a well-placed header from an Akpan Mfreke assist.
Despite a late goal from the hosts, Abia Comets held firm to secure all three points and extend their unbeaten streak to seven games.
Following the impressive victory, Chairman Boniface Alozie Uche commended the team for their stellar performance and urged them to maintain their momentum.
