Sports minister, Barrister Solomon Dalung has reeled out a long list of factors, issues and structures Edo State government must complete to ensure they pull off a successful hosting of the National Sports Festival.
Sports247.ng reports that Dalung made the clarification while receiving Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki in an official visit to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Dalung used the occasion to put pen on an agreement between the host of Edo 2020 and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, during which it was disclosed that the festival is billed to hold in March next year.
Dalung used the ceremony, which took place at Abuja National Stadium media centre, to spell out responsibilities of major stakeholders, while pointing at rules and regulations guiding the National Sports Festival.
The minister said he is optimistic that Edo State will provide and even surpass the requirements and advised the state to embark on aggressive sensitisation and publicity needed in this regard.
Dalung stated further: “As contained in my letter of invitation to bid for the hosting rights to successfully host the National Sports Festival, Edo State is required to among other things, put in place a Local Organising Committee and sub committees as it deems fit.
“(They will also) provide befitting board and lodge for members of the MOC, Games Services Sub-Committee and the MOC Secretariat for the duration of the festival, ensure the security of lives and property of all dignitaries , athletes, officials, spectators, guests, etc throughout the period of the festival.
”They are also to ensure the physical availability of the approved facilities for all the sports on the official Programme and provide accommodation for accredited athletes and officials including facilities for central feeding.”
