Following a somewhat underwhelming performance at the recently concluded ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships (WTTTC), powerhouse nations Nigeria and Egypt, alongside other contenders from the African continent, are now redirecting their attention to the upcoming 13th African Games set to take place in Ghana.
Table tennis enthusiasts can anticipate an exciting start to the games, with the likes of Omar Assar of Egypt and Quadri Aruna of Nigeria expected to kick off their quest for medals in the singles event.

Egypt, which dominated the medal standings at the 2019 edition in Morocco, aims to replicate its success in Ghana, with seven titles up for grabs in the table tennis event.
According to the African Table Tennis Federation (ATTF), the tournament will kick off with the singles event, followed by team and doubles competitions.
Many of the continent’s top players will then head to the WTT Singapore Smash from March 8 to 17.
This strategic scheduling is aimed at allowing players to accumulate points for their potential qualification to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in France, highlighting the significance of these upcoming competitions for the athletes’ long-term goals.
Meanwhile, in the WTT Singapore Smash 2024, prominent players like Quadri Aruna and Egypt’s Omar Assar, Ahmed Saleh, Dina Meshref, and Hana Goda will begin their campaigns from the main draws on March 10.
Others will start their journey from the qualifying rounds, including Nigeria’s Fatimo Bello, Algeria’s Lynda Loghraibi, and Egypt’s Mohamed El-Beiali, among others.
The OCBC Arena Singapore is set to host the Singapore Smash 2024, promising an electrifying experience for fans worldwide.
The event will feature top paddlers from around the globe, including defending champions Fan Zhendong and Sun Yingsha of China, who are eager to secure victory once again.
As the qualifying rounds unfold from March 7 to 9, leading into the main draw on March 10, anticipation is high for intense competition and thrilling performances at the Singapore Smash 2024, showcasing the remarkable talent and competitive spirit of the world’s finest table tennis players.
