In the opening match of the inaugural edition of The First Lady’s female football competition, Ibom Angels Football Club faced off against Unical Malabresses on Monday, resulting in a narrow 0-1 defeat for them.
The encounter, held at the training pitch of U. J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar, Cross River State, saw Unical Malabresses emerge victorious with a lone goal scored in the 30th minute from a corner kick.

Expressing disappointment over the loss, the coach of Ibom Angels, Edwin Okon, vowed to ensure a better performance from the team in their upcoming matches.
Okon emphasized that despite being present for scouting purposes, he expected his team to deliver a stronger performance, and he is determined to address any shortcomings before their next match.
According to him, “The team performed below my expectation, I’ll see to it that they improve in their next match.
I’m here for scouting but that shouldn’t make the team perform below my expectation in the competition”.
Looking ahead, Ibom Angels will face Obubra Queens FC today, Tuesday, 20th February, at 4 pm at the main bowl of U J. Esuene stadium.
With several other formidable clubs participating in the competition, including Pelican Stars FC, Obubra Queens FC, Nkor Academy, and Imo Strikers FC, the tournament promises to showcase exciting football talent and fierce competition among women’s football teams in the region.
