“The impact of this race, from the very start, has always been about showing the world that we can do things right in this country.
And also creating leverage for thousands of people. We’ve used this marathon to show that sports is a relative way of empowerment, is a tool to entertain and is a tool to collaborate.
The sustainability strategy that we’ve deployed has been very amazing. And that is why, looking down the road now, and looking ahead, one feels very optimistic that this 9th edition, by God’s grace, will go smoothly.
And it will be a precursor to a greater race in the next year, to make it the tenth anniversary.”
He credited the government of Lagos State, particularly Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, for his unwavering support and commitment to sports development.
Olopade praised Sanwoolu’s leadership in elevating the marathon from a bronze label to a gold label, with aspirations for a platinum label in the future.
Furthermore, Olopade expressed gratitude to sponsors, notably Access Bank, and lauded the media for their comprehensive coverage and promotion of the marathon.
He acknowledged the diversity of runners participating in the race, emphasizing that it enriches the event by encompassing various motivations, including charity, competitiveness, and recreational running.
Addressing a journalist’s question regarding the impact of diverse runners on the race, Olopade asserted that it enhances the event’s overall experience.
