Former Super Eagles forward, Sunday Mbah, has called on fans to acknowledge the efforts of star player Victor Osimhen, despite his recent struggles to find the back of the net at the current AFCON tournament.
Mbah, a member of the 2013 AFCON-winning squad, emphasized the importance of recognizing Osimhen’s contributions to the team, even if he hasn’t been scoring goals as frequently as expected.

“For me, I think Osimhen, sometimes it’s like that, you know, as a striker. Even if he’s not scoring now, let the whole world, let Nigerians see the work, the effort he’s putting in. Nigerians still appreciate his effort, what he’s doing,” Mbah remarked.

He highlighted Osimhen’s role in creating space, providing assists, and showcasing his work ethic on the pitch, despite not finding the net consistently in recent matches.
Mbah expressed confidence that Osimhen could still be a decisive factor in the Super Eagles’ upcoming game against South Africa, suggesting that the striker’s efforts and dedication are evident regardless of his goal-scoring record.
“Even without scoring, completely, of course. Though we know he’s a striker, that is the number one primary job to do. But since he’s not scoring, let him be creating space. And then we’re seeing how he’s running; we’re seeing that he’s working hard,” Mbah added.
His remarks underscore the need for support and encouragement for Osimhen as he continues to strive for success with the national team, highlighting the broader contributions and impact he brings to the squad beyond scoring goals.
