Athletes from Nigeria have gathered in Abuja to commence their preparations for the upcoming African Games and Olympic Games.
Over 300 athletes are set to participate in the evaluation competition, aiming for honours at the Moshood Abiola Stadium.
According to a statement signed by Rita Mosindi, the Secretary General of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), the evaluation meeting has been organized in two phases to accommodate the substantial number of participating athletes.
The first phase is scheduled for February 16th and 17th, while the second phase will take place on February 16th and 17th in Abuja.
The approved events for the men’s category include 100m, 400m, 1,500m, 400m, High Jump, Long Jump, and Javelin.
Meanwhile, the events for the women’s category consist of 100m, 400m, 800m, 100m, Triple Jump, Discus, and Race Walk.
Rita Mosindi also announced that prizes will be awarded to athletes securing 1st to 6th positions in both men’s and women’s events.
The evaluation meet is crucial in identifying and fine-tuning the athletes’ performances ahead of the 13th edition of the African Games scheduled to take place in Ghana from March 8th to 13th.
