Following the thrilling final at the 2nd Edition of the Para Games in Abuja, Nigerian Amputee Football Federation President, Paul Maduakor, addressed the press to highlight the remarkable progress in amputee football and discuss the federation’s plans.

In the final, Team Kano secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Team Kwara, showcasing the growing competitiveness and skill level in amputee football.
President Paul Maduakor expressed his delight at the substantial improvement from the previous year, particularly noting the increased participation, saying, “There is a super improvement from what happened last year to what happened this year.”
A significant milestone for amputee football in Nigeria was the expansion of participating teams, as Paul Maduakor explained, “Last year, we were three, but this year we are six. So it’s a very good, positive development in amputee football in Nigeria.”
The increased number of teams reflects a growing interest and engagement in the sport, indicating a positive trajectory for its future in the country.

Addressing the plans for the federation, Paul Maduakor acknowledged the Ministry’s commitment to hosting the national para games annually, providing a platform for continued growth. He stated, “It’s a very good gesture from the ministry to keep their word in making sure that the national para games are being held every year.”
Furthermore, he outlined the strategic use of these tournaments to select players for the upcoming African Nations Cup in Egypt. With the qualification secured, President Maduakor sees the Para Games as a crucial avenue to identify and groom the next generation of national team players, referred to as the “Special Eagles.” The African Nations Cup scheduled for April will serve as an opportunity for Nigeria to compete on the continental stage, and the Para Games play a pivotal role in shaping the national amputee football team for this prestigious event.
