Former Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns manager, Pitso Mosimane, has revealed his keen interest in coaching a national team, expressing admiration for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Mosimane, known for his successful coaching stints in African football, has previously been linked with the coaching role for the Nigerian national team.

In a recent interview with the South African Football Journalists Association (SAFJA), Mosimane praised the talent within the Super Eagles squad, singling out players like Chukwueze and the striker from Napoli.
“If you have Chukuweze and the boy playing for Napoli as your striker, I mean really. That Nigerian team is unbelievable,” he said.
He expressed his desire to coach in the World Cup, emphasizing that he does not choose opportunities; he simply wants to participate in football’s grandest event.
“To be honest, I would like to coach in the World Cup. I do not choose what comes, I would like to go to the World Cup. South Africa wants to qualify, Nigeria wants to qualify.”
Mosimane discussed Nigeria’s recent performances in the World Cup qualifiers and raised concerns about potential political interference affecting the team’s dynamics.

Reflecting on the draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, he questioned how politics between the government and the football federation could impact the team’s performance.
“I saw the draw against Lesotho and Zimbabwe. Okay, it’s football, it happens. But how can politics between the government and the federation derail the team?” he questioned.
Looking ahead to the World Cup qualification tie between Nigeria and South Africa in 2024, Mosimane acknowledged Nigeria’s strength though he expressed a desire for a victory for his home country.
“Of course, I want South Africa to win because I am South African. But in reality, I think Nigeria has the team, man,” he stated.
Amid growing discontent towards the current Super Eagles coach, Jose Pereiro, due to disappointing performances, speculation about potential replacements has surfaced.
Pitso Mosimane’s name is among those rumoured for the role, and in the interview, he indirectly hinted at his interest in managing the Super Eagles and leading them to the World Cup.
“I really would like to go to the World Cup, but it must be a good team that can compete,” Mosimane emphasized, leaving room for speculation about a possible future role with the Nigerian national team.
