The four-day Confederation of African Canoeing (CAC) Canoe Sprint/Para-canoe African Championships not only showcased intense competition among 16 countries but also served as a crucial qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Competing in various categories of African Canoe Olympic qualifier such as C1 200m women, C2 500m women, C1 1000m men, C2 500m men, K1 1000m men, K2 500m men, K1 500m women, and K2 500m women, athletes vied for both medals and coveted Olympic tickets.
South Africa dominated the event, securing a total of nine medals, including eight gold and one bronze, to emerge as the overall winners.

Team Nigeria demonstrated exceptional skill, clinching nine medals, consisting of four gold, four silver, and one bronze, securing their well-deserved second position.
Tunisia claimed the third position with a total of 15 medals, including three gold, five silver, and seven bronze. Senegal settled for the fourth position with five medals, and Algeria and Angola secured the fifth and sixth positions, respectively.
Nigeria’s Ayomide Bello emerged as the overall best woman athlete, securing three gold medals in the C1 Women 200m, C1 Women 500m, and C2 Women 500m events.
Her outstanding performance contributed significantly to Nigeria’s success in the championships.
Noteworthy achievements also included the duo of Endurance Godhelp and Celestine Etoi winning gold for Nigeria in the K2 men 200m event.
