Uzoho Receives Super Eagles’ Wake Up Charge

Elche of Spain goalkeeper, Francis Odinaka Uzoho has received a wake up charge for him to return to top spot at his club or face the possibility of losing his place in the Super Eagles.

Sports247.ng reports that this verdict has been issued for Uzoho for no less a person than Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr, who confessed that he is worried seeing the towering shot-stopper on the bench.

Uzoho is on loan at Elche from fellow-Spanish second division side, Deportivo La Coruna, which with which he shot to prominence last season during their days in the top-flight La Liga.

However, after shooting straight into Nigeria’s number one spot in goal and going on to star at the World Cup, Uzoho has shown poor form of recent, which critics believes is due to his strugles at club level.

Rohr has now urged the youngster to wake up, as the France-German gaffer noted that Uzoho is raking least in appearances among the motley of Nigerian players plying their trade in Spain, even as the others are with various clubs in the top division.

Rohr said he is happy to see Kenneth Omeruo at Leganes, Moses Simon at Levante and Samuel Chukwueze at Villarreal, but is worried that the same cannot be said about Uzoho’s current status with Elche.

The Eagles’ coach stated: “I am watching the development of our number one goalkeeper, Uzoho, because his club has bought a new goalkeeper and he is now in second place with them.

“I will like to see him as number one goalkeeper and not a substitute in a Spanish second league. I know that the level is high in Spain.

“We also have other players in Spain doing very well because I do monitor them to see how they are doing, their progress and fitness.

“Samuel Chukwueze and Kenneth Omeruo are presently doing well and I am happy with that because they are part of the main team.

“When I first invited Chukwueze to the team, many were surprised with my action, but then, I knew his level, that he has lots of quality and he is already showing that.

“Same thing with Omeruo when he played the last game for us in South Africa, he is a good central defender and I am happy he is being recognised in his club.

“We also have Moses Simon who did very well in the game against Barcelona FC in their last game. We also have him in our plans too.”
