Edo State Sports Commission Chairman Yusuf Alli has charged Edo Queens team to have their eyes fixed on the NWFL premiership title for the 2023/24 league season.
Addressing the team today at the conference Hall of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin, the Commission boss congratulated the girls for their victory in the just concluded two pre- season Women Football Tournament in Nigeria.
He charged the girls to shift their attention to the league as Nigeria Women Football League NWFL 2023 /2024 season begins next week Thursday November 16th, at various designated centers across the country.
According to him: ” I want to congratulate you all for your brilliant outing during Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament BOWFT, that ended last week in Edo State. In fact you girls really made us proud. You must as a matter of fact keep that winning mentality on. Once again I congratulate everyone of you for a job well done.”
“You must understand the dynamics of this game, football is basically a team work, no matter how good you may think you are, you must work together as a team.that is why it is called team game, that is why your coach will tell a midfielder take the ball give to an attacker, he will not tell you goalkeeper take the ball go and score no, there must be synergy among you all. One person can’t do it alone. You all know that the league is coming up, where we were last year is not where we are right now, Edo Queens is being seen now probably as the best Women Football team in the country, so all eyes are on Edo Queens. And in sports, you are as good as your last performance, and in your last performance, you are the champion. So anybody coming at you now would want to beat you, you must not underrate any team, you be focus and begin the NWFL title race on a sound note.”
“Let cast our minds back to the draws for BOWFT, when you were grouped along side Remo Ladies, majority of you thought it was going to be a work over game, but you sweated and laboured very hard to beat them. This is the reason why you shouldn’t underrate any team. The group you are is not tea and butter group, so must be ready to fight like champions that you are. You must fight to come first in that group because that is the group that make NWFL tick . Please let’s take the league seriously, one game at a time. There is no team that cannot be beaten, you will concede goals it is normal in football, but we must remember that we have a mission, and that mission must be accomplished. Our eyes are on the continental scene, so let’s us fight rigorously together to achieve it.”
Meanwhile, head coach of the team Moses Aduku thank the management for the opportunity given to him to serve, he promised that Edo Queens will not go down the ladder, that they will continue to work hard to keep the winning spirit on.
“I want to you our amiable State governor, His Excellency Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, Sports Commission Chairman Yusuf Alli, and everyone that has made this dream possible. We won’t let the State down, and we won’t go down the ladder. We will continue to.maintain focus because we know the huge task ahead, we would closely together to keep this winning mentality on.”
