2023 NBBF Premier Basketball League Tips Off with Host Cities Revealed

The 2023 Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) Premier Basketball League has commenced with host cities announced.

This year’s league features clubs divided into two conferences, Savannah and Atlantic, each further split into Group A and Group B. The host cities include Abuja, Asaba, Lafia, and Ibadan.

In Abuja, Group A comprises Kano Pillars, Nigeria Customs, Nigeria Army, Niger Potters, Nile University, Bauchi Nets, and Kada Stars. Group B in Lafia includes Benue Braves, Correctional, Gboko City Chiefs, Gombe Bulls, Mark Mentors, NSCDC Defenders, and Plateau Peaks.

In Asaba, teams like Rivers Hoopers, Delta Force, Police Batons, Lagos Legends, and Lagos Raptors are set to compete. Meanwhile, the Ibadan center will host defending champions Kwara Falcons, along with Hoops and Reads, Lagos Islanders, Impressions, Comets, Ondo Raiders, Invaders, and Oluyole Warriors.

The action in the Ibadan center began over the weekend, featuring a victory for defending champions Kwara Falcons, who defeated Comets 60-55. Hoops and Reads also secured a win by beating Ondo Raiders 78-49, while Oluyole Warriors edged out Impressions with a score of 48-42 points.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the Final Eight in Lagos next month. The overall winner of the 2023 NBBF Premier League will have the honor of representing Nigeria at the 2024 Basketball Africa League (BAL) in Kigali, Rwanda.
