Taiwo Awoniyi’s goal sinks Oostende in Belgium

Nigerian youth sensation Taiwo Awoniyi scored the winning goal as Royal Excel Mouscron beat Oostende 2- 1 to increase their chances of avoiding relegation at the end of the season in the Belgian first division on Sunday.

 

Royal Excel went behind in the ninth minute when forward Tom De Sutter put the away side in front. The home side reacted quickly as Manuel Benson equalized four minutes later in the 13th minute while Taiwo Awoniyi completed the comeback in the in the 68th minute.

 

Awoniyi who has represented Nigeria at the U-17, 20 and U-23 levels was signed up by English Premier League giants Liverpool in 2015 few years after his fantastic outing at the 2013 FIFA u-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates where he scored four goals.

 

Since joining Liverpool Awoniyi has been on loan to several clubs outside England including Frankfurt, NEC in Belgium, Gent and two stints with Royal Excel Mouscron where he scored nine goals in 29 appearances in his first spell at the club in the 2017/2018 season.

 

Royal Excel Mouscon is currently 14th on the 16 team league format with five wins, five draws and 12 losses in 22 games so far.
