In a thrilling display of athleticism, Delta State emerged as the champions of the 7th National Youth Games, “Asaba 2023,” hosted from September 20 to September 30.
The Main Organising Committee (MOC) released the final medal table, with Team Delta securing the top spot with an impressive haul of 51 gold, 34 silver, and 31 bronze medals.
Team Lagos secured the second position with a commendable performance, amassing 21 gold, 19 silver, and 21 bronze medals. Team Edo clinched the third spot, closely trailing Lagos, with 21 gold, 15 silver, and 17 bronze medals.
Bayelsa and Kwara earned the fourth and fifth positions, respectively, with Bayelsa securing 20 gold, 7 silver, and 16 bronze medals, while Kwara achieved 13 gold, 14 silver, and 9 bronze medals.
Team Ogun claimed the sixth position with a total of 11 gold, 12 silver, and 9 bronze medals. FCT followed closely in the seventh position, gathering 11 gold, 10 silver, and 16 bronze medals.
Team Anambra achieved the eighth position with 7 gold, 6 silver, and 9 bronze medals, while Team Rivers secured the ninth spot, amassing 6 gold, 16 silver, and 13 bronze medals.
Dr. Emmanuel Igbinosa, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Edo State Sports Commission, expressed his pride in Edo’s athletes, commending their remarkable performance despite competing against more experienced participants.
He extended gratitude to Governor Godwin Obaseki for his unwavering support in developing grassroots sports.

“I am proud of our athletes because they did their very best despite competing with their ‘elder brothers and sisters in the competition and in the end, they came out 3rd.
“I want to give kudos to the state government, led by Governor Godwin Osaretin, for the tremendous support he gave us. With his support, we were able to go to a closed camp for the first time in Edo.”He spoke.
