Team Imo contingent made up of 200 athletes and 61 officials yesterday left for Asaba, Delta State the venue of the ongoing National Youth Games.

Team Imo left the Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri with high hopes to take part in 18 sporting events which includes Chess, Scrabble, Ayo, Darts, Squash, Table Tennis, Para Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Boxing, Badminton, Wrestling, Judo, Basketball, Handball, Rugby and Hockey.
The Eastern Heartland team was at the edition held in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The Imo state commissioner for Youths, Sports and social development, Honorable Emeka Okoronkwo expressed optimism that Imo Athletes will justify Governor Hope Uzodimma’s trust by winning Gold medals at youth games.
He pointed out that the team is in high spirit and the camp is lively because their welfare has been taken care of.
The further added that His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has always made youth development a priority and this is why he has directed that everything that needs to be done to ensure the optimum performance of team Imo athletes should be put in place.
The Director of Sports, Imo Sports Commission, Sir Ferdinand Emeana said Team Imo is in Asaba to give a good representation of the zone.
He said they have left for Asaba with young athletes and are certain would make Imo state proud.
“The team left for Asaba, Delta State today and it was done with high hopes. We want to do well there,” Emeana told our correspondent.
