Bayo Shofoluwa, the team manager for Satech FC, shared insights about their participation in the OWO UNITY CUP tournament held at Eko Boys High School in Mushin.
Making their debut in the tournament, Satech FC faced Nakamura Strikers FC in a knockout match that concluded in a penalty shootout, resulting in Nakamura Strikers FC emerging as the victors.
In an interview with Sports 247 following the match, Shofoluwa discussed his team’s expectations and performance. Prior to the game, he expressed, “Satech happens to be the number 1 club in Mushin. You can ask around. But we have many teams coming up now. It is a game of luck. The penalty is a game of luck. Maybe it is just their day today.” He also highlighted that their encounter with Nakamura Strikers FC isn’t over yet, as they are scheduled to face each other again in the semi-final of the Mushin challenge cup competition at St Jude on Friday.

When asked about whether his team met the expectations with their performance, Shofoluwa admitted, “They performed below expectations because the opposing team are just upcoming and the goal they even scored was a terrible mistake by the goalkeeper but such things happen. How you come back after this kind of situation is actually the best.”
Looking ahead to their upcoming match, Shofoluwa acknowledged that there is much work to be done in their preparation to deliver a stronger performance.
Discussing his impressions of grassroots football, particularly in Mushin, Shofoluwa emphasized the positive impact of such competitions. He noted, “This kind of competition would take a lot of boys off the streets. At least they have somewhere they can utilize their energy.” He also expressed how grassroots football helps change the perception of Mushin, a locality often linked to negative stereotypes. He added, “Now, most youths are involved in sports, not only football.” Shofoluwa acknowledged that grassroots football faces challenges in terms of sponsorships, necessitating collective efforts to support its growth.
