Atalanta of Italy defender, Caleb Okoli is stepping closer to the club’s mainframe, as he keeps growing in leaps and bounds as a formidable member of the second team’s back-four.
Sports247.ng learnt that Okoli’s surge into the mainframe of the club that once had former Super Eagles striker, Stephen Ayodele Makinwa ion their cards got a massive boost with his inclusion in the main squad for their Coppa Italia clash on Monday.
Born in Vicenza, Italy, the 17-year-old Okoli is ranked among the best young defenders in the Primavera Youth League 1, where he has 11 starts for Atalanta’s under-19 squad so far this season.
However, Okoli got very close to the main team late last year, when he was an unused substitute in a 2-2 draw against Juventus in the Serie A on Boxing Day, December 26.
On Monday, Atalanta manager, Gian Piero Gasperini named Okoli in his squad of 20 battle away to Cagliari at Sardegna Arena, with the rapidly rising Nigerian-born youngster granted jersey number 55.
