Host South Africa emerged triumphant on home soil on Saturday, sweeping to a 3-0 victory over Zimbabwe in the final of the Davis Cup Africa Group III tournament held at TuksTennis, University of Pretoria.

Both in the singles contest and doubles match, Devin Badenhorst beat Takura Mhwandagara 6-1, 6-2 in the first encounter before 17-year-old Leo Matthysen combined with fellow Davis Cup debutant Christiaan Worst to secure a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Badza and Mhwandagara.
Eight national tennis teams from across Africa converged in Tshwane last Tuesday when they turned out for the draw ahead of the highly anticipated 2023 Davis Cup Africa Group III tournament.
Hosted by Tennis South Africa (TSA) and the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the event featured South Africa, Benin, Algeria, Namibia, Senegal, Togo, Ivory Coast, and Zimbabwe, as they competed for coveted spots in the Davis Cup World Group II playoffs.
The top teams in each group will be automatically promoted to the Davis Cup World Group II playoffs in 2024, along with the winner of the playoff between the two teams which finish second.
The bottom team in each group will be relegated to Africa Group IV next season.
Meanwhile, Togo beat Benin 2-1 in the third-place battle, grabbing the final available spot in Group II playoffs.
In the relegation playoffs, Cote D’Ivoire beat Senegal 2-0 and Namibia defeated Algeria 2-1.
Senegal and Algeria were relegated to Group VI, while Benin, Cote D’Ivoire, and Namibia retained their places in Africa Group III.
