France held centre of attraction on Saturday at the 2018 Lagos Open Tennis final, with two of their players battling each other in the men’s singles final.
At the end of the day’s drama, sports247.ng can report that Jomby Tom won the Lagos Open Futures 4 men’s singles title, after beating his compatriot, Rinderknech Arthur 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
France was the name on all lips at Lord Rumens Centre, as both French players squared off in the final match of the International Tennis Federation-certified point-awarding $25, 000 event.
En route to winning the grand prize and ATP points, Tom served 19 aces as against eight by Arthur, in spite of five double faults, compared to one by the losing finalist.
Speaking after, Tom praised Arthur for a stern test but added that he was not ready to prepare to miss the chance of winning in Lagos.
Tom added: ”He was a difficult opponent but I was not ready to allow this golden chance of winning the singles crown in Lagos pass me by.
“I feel excited that my objective of playing here has been achieved with this win and hope for a better outing in the second week.”
In the women’s singles final, Switzerland’s top seed and multiple-title winner, Perrin Conny lost the ladies’ diadem to Indian sixth seed, Yadlapalli Pranjala 6-2, 5-7, 0-6.
