Lagos, Nigeria – The Nigerian U-18 girls’ handball team is leaving no stone unturned in their quest for glory at the upcoming International Handball Federation (IHF) Trophy Africa Continental Phase Championship.

Currently, they are in rigorous training camp at Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos, fine-tuning their skills and strategies under the watchful eye of Coach Shittu Adewunmi Agboola.
The championship, set to take place in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, from August 8 to August 19, 2023, promises fierce competition as teams from across the continent vie for supremacy.
Nigeria’s young athletes will be entering the fray as Africa Zone Three champions, having secured victory in the IHF Trophy Africa Zone Three tournament held earlier this year in Ghana.
A notable presence in the training camp includes captain Esther Matthew, whose exceptional talent and leadership earned her the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the IHF Trophy Africa Zone Three tournament.
Also among the squad is the talented goalkeeper Samuel Precious from Rima Strikers, who was voted the best goalkeeper in the same event. Adding to the team’s strength are the Babatunde twins from Seasider Babes of Lagos, further reinforcing Nigeria’s aspirations for success in the U-18 category.
The competition in Abidjan will see Nigeria pitted against formidable opponents, including Guinea, Madagascar, and Rwanda, at the prestigious Centre ivoiro-coréen sports hall.
The young athletes are determined to showcase their skills, teamwork, and indomitable spirit on the court, aiming to secure the top spot and represent Africa in the international phase of the IHF Trophy Championship.
